G.Dipl. SR&S Alumni Event | An evening of networking, learning and fundraising in support of The Freshstart Hub – an organization helping internationally trained talent and international students navigate their career journey faster.
This May, the Alumni Committee of the Graduate Diploma in Social Responsibility and Sustainability hosted an engaging evening of networking and discovery, uniting both past and current students of the program in-person and online. This event provided a valuable opportunity for students to reconnect and gain insights from an inspiring keynote address delivered by David Ojeyinka, Founder of The Freshstart Hub. The Hub’s work is to “Help internationally trained talent and international students navigate their career journey faster.“
Ojeyinka’s session explored several key topics, including how The Freshstart Hub assists internationally trained talent and students in navigating their career journeys, addressing the underemployment gap among Canadian newcomers, and ways businesses, governments, and individuals can support these newcomers.
David and his team at The Freshstart Hub have made significant strides, helping over 100 internationally trained professionals secure well-paying jobs across Canada. The event also featured a silent auction, to which Alumni Committee members donated unique services and items, helping raise $740 in support of The Freshstart Hub’s transformative work.
During the evening, Alumni also celebrated the outgoing Advisory Council Chair and Mentor, Jessica Pelchat (Class 2016) and Vice Chair and Mentor, Yvonne Jeffery (Class 2013) for their wonderful service in supporting future students in the program through their leadership and mentorship. At the session, Director of Continuing Education, Dr. Michael Salvatori also welcomed new Chair, Sara Gelgor (Class 2021) and Vice Chair, Lynn Keays, Class 2021 to their new leadership positions on the Council.
