SUMMARY:Module 1 - Social Impact Measurement Professional Certificate
DESCRIPTION:Module 1: Fundamentals of Social Impact Measurement (Micro-Credential) \nIn this module embrace the concepts that underpin a successful\, impactful\, business aligned and resilient social impact strategy or program. \n\nUnderstand core concepts such as “standards”\, “frameworks”\, “inductive” vs. “deductive” reasoning\, “logic model\, “theory of change”\, “social value”\, “social impact” “collective impact”\, “partners/all people affected”\, “partners/all people affected\, “program evaluation” and “social impact measurement”\, and introduce the different iterations of each core concept.\nExplain some reasons for why these iterations exist (i.e. language that resonates with specific sectors\, etc.).\nExamine the concept and value of a Theory of Change.\nExplore the current state of measurement and impact reporting.\nIntegrate the core concepts\, explain their iterations\, and why these iterations exist.\nDescribe the diversity of perspectives on impact measurement across a variety of vectors\, including:\n\nQualitative vs Quantitative approaches;\nNonprofits\, charities\, social enterprises\, and corporations;\nMethodologies such as Common Approach\, Developmental Evaluation\, Collective Impact\, Social Return on Investment\, UN SDG Impact Standard framework\, Task Force on Inequality and Socially-related Financial Disclosures (TISFD) etc.\n\n\nExamine various social impact frameworks and standards within the context of a continuum of options.\nContrast the definition and use of an impact thesis\, logic model\, reverse-logic model\, theory of change\, outcomes mapping\, and ecosystem mapping.\nDiscuss the importance of standardized language within the organization for social impact. DESCRIPTION:Join us on May 7 at the University of St. Michael’s College\, Charbonnel Lounge (Elmsley Hall) for our next Alumni Networking event. \nSee old friends + make new ones! \nLearn about social impact investing and the new Social Impact Measurement Certificate. \nAbout the keynote presenter: \nJason Sukhram is a Director and the Head of Impact Services at Quinn+Partners. He brings extensive experience advising clients across sectors on how to leverage capital to drive positive\, measurable outcomes for people and the planet\, while generating financial returns. He previously led the impact measurement and management advisory practice as a Director at the MaRS Centre for Impact Investing. Prior to MaRS\, Jason focused on impact investing in the international development context\, including building agricultural social enterprises with the Clinton Foundation’s poverty alleviation initiative and assessing market-based approaches to primary care services in low- and middle-income countries with an interdisciplinary global health research group. He has an MBA and an engineering degree from the University of Toronto. \nAbout the Social Impact Measurement Certificate program instructor: \nAnshula Chowdhury is a leading expert in impact measurement and reporting in Canada\, having co-founded Social Value Canada and served on Ontario’s Impact Measurement Task Force. She led SAMETRICA\, a SaaS platform for ESG and impact for 14 years. She has pioneered the application of AI to impact reporting\, working with the University of Toronto to create an AI data standard that was adopted as part of the national Common Approach standard. At SAMETRICA\, she led major implementations across sectors\, developing frameworks for tracking billions in social investment. Anshula holds a Bachelor’s in Economics from the University of Toronto’s Trinity College\, with additional training in Social Return on Investment and participation in the NEXT Founders program.

DESCRIPTION:In 2023\, Gore Mutual Foundation Launched the Climate & Equity Lab in partnership with Social Innovation Canada and York University.  A series of research labs were launched to gain a better understanding of how climate change is impacting the most vulnerable populations in Canadian urban centers.  The Labs explored options for the right solutions to mitigate that impact. \nThrough this work\, Gore Mutual found there is a unique opportunity to look at the interconnection among poverty\, equity and climate change.  The Labs created an understanding of how the impacts of climate change are already being felt\, and will continue to impact Canada’s most vulnerable community members in urban environments\, including the increasing number of  Canadians who are deemed “uninsurable”. \n\n“This partnership took a year to come together\, and we know that these are the right partners for The Climate and Equity Lab. Our partners share the same values\, urgency\, and vision to make our findings public and inspire others to take action alongside us.
